Save Skype Video Messages: Versions Prior to 6.5. In previous versions of Skype, when you get a video message you also receive a link to view the video message on your browser. Skype doesn't actually delete these messages when it stops showing them. As long as you still have access to the Skype account on which you had the conversation and haven't manually deleted your.

I'll have to confirm this to our developers. I'll update you once I get an answer from them.
In the mean time, try to uninstall and reinstall your Skype app and see if the recording will reach up to 3 minutes after reinstalling.

I tried uninstalling Skype today from my friend's laptop. Found 2 versions, uninstalled them both, and installed version 8.25.0.5. Still having the same problem.

Me too. It used to allow me 3 minutes, but the new version only allows 20 seconds. I actually discovered this problem a few months ago, so I went back to the old version. But now I understand it will be phased out, so I'm back on the new version. Why 20 seconds only? Plus, on the mobile app, it updated itself and also has 20 seconds, and I must hold the capture button the whole time I'm recording - which is awkward.
Hence, both desktop and mobile app seem limited to 20 second video messages. Argh?

The 20 sec limit is still present in the latest 8.27.0.85 update.
